Well that's not exactly informative information from DVLA .... Making the assumption that the reader has access to the WWW

Dont know how true the rumor I heard is,but it will add fuel to the fire.

Rumour :Even though you car is not on the road and even on SORN you will have to insure it.

What next from the bassdrinkers in government.

Continus insurance is not hot on the cards just yet,

However if your car is taxed then it must be insured even if it's off the road. New Rules last year.

Been watching that situation Paul

I have a vested interest .... Still have 2 Triumph Vitesse V5's in my name

DVLA would not accept SORN due to the date they were last taxed

SORN it online now mate, at least your ass will be covered from the start of this month

As far as I know, there is a standard fixed penalty for failure to declare sorn, not a sliding scale according to how many months have elapsed.

who knows, if you are lucky and if you SORN now, you may not hear anything from DVLA

Rob

Complete news to me & I have handled a fair few cars since all of this SORN malarkey came into force !!??

Nothing on the V5 to indicate that if you do not intend to tax the vehicle then SORN must be declared by the new keeper .... Could be a viable defefence for appealing any fixed penalty notice.

Mind you, probably wouldn't be wothwhile appealing as the penalty is doubled if you don't pay at the first time of asking.

In my defence, whenever I get a new vehicle, I always make sure that I take care of things at my end

Very very unlikly they will budge, the law has been in place for many years.

I fell foul of another part of the law, I forgot to tick the SORN box when returning a disk for refund. 8 months later I get a letter with a fine. The settled on 50% of the fine and no back tax, probably as I insisted that I thought I must have ticked the box, the nice e-mail corrospondent sent me the scanned form...

it's all to do with "YOU" declaring that the car will nto be used on the road, and once sold on "YOU" becomes somone else who has to declare that they will not use it on the road.

We would all be a bit miffed if the DVLA sent us a letter 8 months after selling saying that the car had been used by the new owner and we owed them the fine for that as it was our declaration.

STICK IT ALL ON FUEL WITH 3RD party cover lumped in. Then nobody can escape and high users pay more tax. we have done 20 miles in my wifes car in 2 months as I now walk to work.. Still pay full tax and insurance though , great incentive to keep walking it is not!!!
