Front upright - did you strip?
In process of cleaning up the front uprights before giving them a lick of paint, did you guys strip them down and replace the bearings as a matter of course? Don't want to get them nice and shiny to find out I got to pull them apart and fit bearings/seals etc
If you could let me know what you did with yours? Cheers rapid ps sorry for stuffing this in the wrong forum section.... it's been a long week Last edited by rapidtornado : 13th May 2011 at 08:03 PM. Reason: wrong forum section note |

Yeah I took mine completely apart so I could dip it in the electrolysis bath to remove any rust. Then fitted new bearings and painted it. Same with the brake calipers.

I ditched the old bearings and bought new. You can still get the steel covers from Ford. It's pretty likely that the seals are gone anyway.
I'll be replacing the rear cylinders and going for refurbished calipers as well. Anyone know the part number for rear cylinders for 9" drums?

It is better to strip completely. After years grease disappear, rust accumulated, seals gone. The same with calipers.

I won mine on e-bay and have never seen levels of rust like it before, so, stripped mine and cleaned up with electrolisis, was wondering if you can still get the dust caps, so now its a trip to local ford dealership to get some.
By the way they clean up nicely with very little effort, just patience Arfon |

Just to be different - I didn't bother stripping mine - just a clean up and paint. The sierra had only done 35k and all still felt tight and smooth.

I have no intention of stripping mine. Quick clean and paint and that will be it.
Same with all the parts, if it does not seem or was not faulty then it will just be cleaned. TT
