I think the 14" fan would fit, but looking at the dimensions it would overhang the top and/or bottom of the radiator.
That could potentially be worse for cooling as the path of least resistance for the air flow would be bypassing the rad altogether. I reckon 12" might be a better bet. Haven't bothered looking for a blank yet. I'll probably just use the Polo thermo-switch, I don't think they cost much. Isn't one of the connections on the expansion bottle an overflow pipe?
