No i wouldn't use it as an adhesive, self tapping screws would be the choice if you can.

Hmm not sure that will work as its only the small cylinder electrical plug that I need to attach and seal somehow. I currenlty just have a small hole drilled which it sits in but it doesn't exactly stay in the hole that well. Maybe I do just attach it permanently then and if it ever goes or I upgrade my tank I just replace the sender and the small plate I've attached it to?

Sounds the best plan - JB Weld is good for that kind of thing.
