the oil seal is at the rear of the engine technically speaking where your flywheel bolts on to your crank :-)

I recently recieved this Quotation from Dunning & Fairbank

" You will need an adaptor plate to convert the Vauxhall output flange so that you can have a sliding joint.

We will need the pcd & pin dia to make sure we have the correct adaptor.

Price will be £165.00 + vat for the shaft & adaptor plate.

Delivery @ 4-5 days from order.
"

This was for a prop to suit my Vauxhall Omega gearbox to Sierra diff.

Very pleased about the price bearing in mind that I want a sliding section in the shaft

Guess I can order that up now that I have finalised the engines position
im in the same boat as you ie i have a sierra prop and a omega prop, do we need sliding joints? if so couldn't i just keep the omega slider and that donut mount and weld the sierra diff on after that part of the system? actually its too long aint it? :/ oh dear

Hi Michael

Don't think a sliding joint is needed

When I asked for the quote I had not fully finalised my engine position & asked D&F if it was possible to have one.

I thought that would give me 15-20 mm leeway in either direction.

Oops nearly forgot, it's quite nice to have the option of being able to remove the propshaft without dropping the diff or removing the gearbox

AshG had one made up recently, perhaps he will be along with some advice

Carrying on from what Bonzo has said above. I have not enclosed the bottom of the transmission tunnel, and I was able to fit my single piece propshaft without having to remove the engine/gearbox and the diff. By pushing the spigot of the prop all the way into the gearbox, the prop diff flange missed the diff flange nut by millimeters.

Should make maintenance easier at a later date.

i had a new std one from d&f that is good to 200bhp for £105 plus post i think
all new ballanced and its rebuildable and greaseable
just call them and give them the distence from seal to diff flange and what box and diff you have and thay do the rest
and as dave says it fits in without moving box or diff as there is enough movement to get it in

Michael

I don't think that you will want to retain the Omega's donut coupling once you see just how close it will be to the sides of the transmission tunnel

Same goes for original Sierra donut I guess.

Yes, the prop can be fitted easily to the Ford type 9 box as it has a splined input shaft for the prop.
This spline will act as a sliding joint.

The Omega gearbox has a fixed flange to couple the propshaft to, without some form of sliding joint in the new prop, I doubt it will be possible to fit the prop without dif or gearbox removal.

I guess it's a bit confusing as we kinda have 2 different threads going at the same time

Dont discount the doughnut untill you have checked out your clutch plate. Some motors dont use the sprung center plate anymore because there is a doughnut in the driveline. make sure you have one or the other.
