![]() Brilliant, thanks for the replies. I've ordered up some 40sq 3mm wall to be safe.

![]() Just about to fabricate some mounts for my Pinto, i thought the book spec was 6mm plate across the chassis rails and at the ends of the box section, but have other people used 3mm with success?

![]() Pretty sure they are 3mm pal, the only thing thicker on the chassis is the diff brackets and they r 5mm

![]() Just dug out the book, its 5mm for the ends of alternative engine mounts and the plates to cross the chassis rails... I've been able to get some 6mm for free so will be using that if 3mm isn't tough enough... Just wanted to see if others have used 3mm and found it ok?

![]() I'm confused now, why u got to use the alternative mounts when the book spec mounts are for a pinto?
Only asking cause im using a pinto, and ive already cut all the EM plates out of 3mm ![]() |

![]() For reasons i can't understand it appears common that the book engine mount solution, using the cast Ford engine mounts if its a pinto, doesn't work. I'm not the first person to discover this, the steering column and the mount both want to be in the same place at the same time. Serieslandy has a thread that shows a solution, but basically its just the same as the 'alternative engines' bit in the book....

![]() If you look at Janine's build pictures, he used the original pinto engine mounts but Made the steering shaft to go around the engine mount. A damn fine build it is too.
I've tried inserting the picture but it won't let me. Last edited by John.W : 30th December 2012 at 10:55 PM. |
