That didnt make sense to me because the RD850 part has the Sierra triangular fitting on it.

I've ended up ordering RD849 - STEERING COLUMN SHAFT and RD820F - Group 4 Coupling - Forged Steel from Rally design and I can weld the steering column shaft directly into the shaft extension tube to connect it upto the MX5 column.
