The positive crankcase ventilation system is sucking the filtered air through the breather in the valve cover. The air then mixes with the crankcase gases and is scavenged through the PCV valve by the intake vacuum.

In other words, connecting both breathers to the same catch tank just negates the whole system. Fit a small filter on the valve cover. Like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-Breath...item45f79c00e3
Keep the PCV valve connected to the intake.

Thank you Albertas for the technical explanations, very instructive. I was not sure what a PCV valve was in English, but again, Wikipedia was here

Here is a picture of the small breather filter i installed. It is attached to a piece of Gates oil hose. Hope this will be OK. If it is vibrating too much when the engine is running, I can put a longer piece of hose and attach it to the block with a P-clip. We'll see when I start the engine (hopefully this month)

Thanks again.

There is a possibilty of a smell of oil blowing back on you if placed that high up,it may help if you use some wire wool to stop oil coming directly up the pipe.

PCV positive crancase ventilation, popular on VAG.

Thanks for the tip, that is what I'm gonna do. Or may be move the filter using a longer hose. I need to see all the things which will take place in the engine bay, and adapt to it according to the room left. Almost there !
