I had no edge trim on mine and it went through fine. I also didn't cover any nuts as I took the covers back off and put them on the front suspension bolts.
He didn't even give it a second look. The other guy that was there having a retest said he failed on the column bracket protruding down 3mm so had to sort that.

Pedals are exempt, as I understand it, but you have to have some form of grip on the actual pedal bit your foot touches.
