Default No engine number

I know I'm a very long way off iva and stuff but I've noticed that I have no engine number And as I brought the engine as it was with no car/donor what do I do.?

As the engine is modular (wankel if you didn't know) a friend said buy a new front plate (as that's where they are supposed to be) and make up and stamp a new number on it and I may get an age related plate if I have the receipt. Is that possible.?

I don't think you can just make one up. I'm in the same boat and have a zetec but can't make out the engine number.
As far as I'm aware, the engine number must be real in order to prove where the engine came from ( donor), engine age for tax reasons and to prove not stolen.
I'm not 100 percent. ..

That makes 3 of us as I can't make out the last number on mine but i am going to try a wipe of acid over it, apparently this might bring the number out, wish me luck.

Yeah I tried that. It did improve it but there were some parts I just couldn't see.
Definitely worth a try

Ah balls
I'll try cleaning down a bit more and see if I can uncover something.

You could try some image processing on a photo after acid etching to try and show the numbers up. Sometimes the camera pics up colour difference that our eyes just dont see and by adjusting contrast levels you can offen get things to show up.

Cheers
