People use all sorts of engines, Hedgabuser is a firm favourite, giving the thick end of 180+ bhp. There is a whole list of engines used a lot in BECS - ZX (10, 12, 14R), Blackbird, ZZR 14, R1, GSXR thou, Fireblade etc. The R1 has been around for a while and the engines come up at a reasonable price quite a lot. Don't forget, when using a bike lump you will need a reverse box. Welcome to the forum by the way, maybe a little info about yourself and your build in the announcements section would be helpful. R1 because it doesn't need to be dry-sumped... a simple baffle plate and a set of uprated clutch springs is all you have to add.

I've been looking at the zzr1100 make decent power and seem to come up for a reasonable price. Does anyone know if these need to be dry sumped?

I have given up on the idea of a gpz1000rx someone offered me I think there are more powerful and lighter engines around. I've also noticed a few older bikes have the timing chain running around the centre of the block/head like the Yamaha Fazer and CBR 1000 f, how do you change the chain? Is it a rebuild job? |

Probably best doing a search on Locost Builders. There are large numbers of BEC builders on there
