Removing handbrake cable from back plate Help! How do I separate the handbrake cable from the backing plate? I removed something I thought was a retaining spring/sleeve on the inside, but nothing has changed. I tried some blunt force, scratched the sleeve with the pipe wrench, but it does not move.

| If memory serves me right ..........once the cable has been unhooked from the brake shoe lever , there is a u clip that retains the cable ferrule in the backplate. If you have removed the u clip......it is most likeley that it is just corrosion holding it firm. You may have to get angry with it

The Haynes manual also mentions the u-clip. But I can't find anything like it, anything else I can remove. :-/

Thanks very much! I had removed it (and it broke into two pieces), so perhaps now I just have to drive the cable out with a hammer...

It worked, thanks again! It took some bashing with a big hammer.
