tig welders
hi all
im thinking of buying a small tig welder for a project i,ve wanted to do for a few years now to build my own mountain bike frame i could do it at work but with mitering the tubes trial fitting it would take to long and proably get in the way of things so i,ve been looking at a couple on ebay price wise is an issue £200 max what do think of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-Dc-Inverte...54414697496834 or http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TIG-WELDER-MMA...63625735069598 the max tube thickness would be 1.2mm down to 0.9mm simon |

I've got one of those welders in your first ebay link. Bought it for £120 a few years ago as a bit of a risk. It has been brilliant - I've welded my whole chassis by TIG and uprights , diff mounts etc (i.e. thicker bits) with the arc function because I'm tight and didn't want to buy more gas (and I love arc welding!)
I welded my sump with it. When it comes to thin material it can be quite tricky to use as you find you have to set the current quite low to start with and take a long time to make the initial weld pool before moving on to the seam. Alternative is set current higher and go like the wind. If I was to weld more thin material, I would get a TIG welder with a pedal to give you more control.

Don't forget if you want to do ali work you'll need an AC/DC unit. I just ought a 200Amp AC/DC unit off Ebay and I'm well chuffed with it so far.
