Default Bonnet Stuck

So I tried to open the bonnet on my daily driver this afternoon to fill it up again with fluids and the release level under the steering wheel isn't working anymore Any know of a good way to get the bonnet open when its locked shut like that and lever not working?

Its a MK1 Renault Scenic. Because the lever to open it still travels completely I'm guessing the cable has probly snapped somewhere? I can see the screwdriver method working, just need to work out where to put em I guess...

Get someone to pull the lever while you thump the bonnet at the front. When it's open put some oil on the catch.
