Ray, I bought a couple of little books when I got the lathe, and they show this technique.

It's what I was planning to investigate. I had even got an off-cut of the 2" bar I am using ready and waiting to setup to determine the correct spacer size.

Shame the bloody thing has decided to play up, I was quite getting into using it. Might have to buy a mill next as well
