Fire is more likly to start in the engine bay and work it's way backwards, even so the tank would have to be leaking badly to give of enough vapour ( petrol fluid is not flamable ) to cause an explosion.
If your realy worried then a plumbed extinguisher with automatic release is the best option. TT
